Alis is an association that supports families with a member suffering from Locked-in Syndrome (LIS), a condition most often resulting from a stroke.
Upon waking, individuals with LIS discover they are quadriplegic and mute but retain all vital functions and intellectual faculties. These individuals communicate using a code based on eye movements or eyelid blinks, a process that can be enhanced by digital technologies such as eye-controlled computers.
Thanks to awareness raised by a Group employee, APRC Mécénat supported Nabil, a former forklift operator living with LIS after a stroke, by partially financing the costs of a caregiver who, on a daily basis, helps him alleviate the primary challenges of LIS: confinement and isolation.
